From Baby Crib to Big Boy Bed & Pillow

The past three months in our house have been major! Every one has been dealing with something, but this little guy has been in the middle of several of our major changes.

Lennox has turned two, transitioned into a big boy bed and has graduated out of diapers all in the last 12 weeks! Yep, you heard that right - he took all the changes like a champ and hasn't looked back.

All of these changes hit me in my mommy feelings pretty hard, which I did not anticipate at all. I don't remember feeling these feelings when my first born went through all these "big boy" changes, so bare with me while I take you down memory lane for a second. Lennox's nursery was one of my favorites. I loved the colors we picked and the simplicity of it.

I scored this awesome dresser for only $50 at a garage sale, it was solid wood and in great condition. A little paint went a long way and this dresser became the focus of the room. It was simply gorgeous in person.

I spent many nights in this rocking chair, looking out at this view, snuggling a baby Lennox who didn't want anything to do with sleep. Or that crib! Seriously, Lennox was the President of Team No Sleep in 2016 and 2017. We knew something needed to change in 2018, because sleep deprivation was catching up with me.

Lennox loved being in his brother's big boy bed, so I took a chance. We took advantage of a day when Lennox was visiting his Grandma to remove his crib and replaced it with a full size big boy bed. He was a crazy sleeper, he would toss and turn and bang his body into the sides of the crib rails which constantly woke him up. I was hopeful a full size bed would be the answer to all of our sleep prayers.

You know what? It worked like a charm! He sleeps better than he ever has since being moved to his new bed. He goes down around 7:30 every night and he will easily sleep 12-14 hours on the weekends - when we don't have to worry about waking up for work commutes and daycare drop offs. It's glorious, for both of us. Sleep is a beautiful thing people!

Now, it takes more than just a big boy bed. We read No Matter What by Debi Gliori every single night, no substitutions, ever. He won't allow it!

He must have his favorite dinosaur stuffed animal from Kohl's, it's part of their Kohl's Cares line.

Last but not least, he must have his favorite pillow, which I believe was a total game changer for Lennox and his sleeping habits. This Save&Soft Hypoallergenic Toddler Memory Foam Pillow is amazing, seriously.

He carries it all around the house, thankfully the cover is removable and washable, so it cleans up nicely. I can tell a huge difference in his sleep patterns when he uses it. He sleeps soundly and doesn't spend all night tossing and turning. Even though it's called a toddler memory foam pillow, I've caught my husband using it for several naps too!

It is smaller than a standard pillow, but not too small. If you're looking for a pillow that will change your sleep life, check out the Save&Soft Hypoallergenic Toddler Memory Foam Pillow. Every morning when I go to wake him up, it still amazes me he is sleeping so great. Now, the changes are done. Phase two - making one big boy room for Weston and Lennox to share!

Have you transitioned a little one to a big boy room? Was it an easy change? Or do you have siblings that share a room? I would love to hear all about it.

  2. The most important thing is that the child is happy and well accepted these changes, which means that he was completely ready for them and you did everything on time.
